Mahjong settlement

Who pays whom
after a hand?

Settlement turns the four hand scores into the player-to-player changes for that hand, then adds each change to the running game totals.

Rules matter. This detailed explanation is for British / BMJA-style settlement. Settlement is profile-owned, so other supported rules may differ. See the rules hub for current profile support and boundaries.

A hand score is not a payment.

East scores 56; South wins with 60; West scores 40; North scores 44. The production settlement engine, not a page-only calculation, produces the transfers below.

Who pays whom

East paid South 120 — doubled because East was East

West paid South 60

North paid South 60

West paid East 32 — doubled because East was East

North paid East 24 — doubled because East was East

West paid North 4

Net change

East−64
South+240
West−96
North−80

Changes total zero.

In British / BMJA-style settlement, each loser pays the winner the winner’s score. Payments involving East are doubled where the rules require it, and non-winners also settle score differences with one another. Those separate transfers combine into one net change per player.

One hand versus the whole game

Settlement explains this hand. The tracker records it, updates running totals, then advances East, Wind and the next-hand state under the active rules. Final standings are the result of all confirmed hands, not a different payment calculation.
